Earthquakes….Hurricanes…Tornados…. If God has the power to inflict natural disasters on humans because of our poor behavior, why doesn’t he save the weak defenseless people of the world. As some fundamentalist Christians, Muslims and Jews believe the flooding from Katrina came from God because of the sinfulness of New Orleans. Yesterday Republican Presidential hopeful Michelle Bachmann said God was sending Washington a message with the recent Earthquake and Hurricane (she may have been kidding but many people believe this). As a person still trying to figure the God thing out, I’m super confused. One minute Christians say God controls all. In the next breaththey say man has free will.
So he will bless people like R. Kelly with money and fame even though he has settled a number of underage sex civil suits. He lets innocent children die of starvation in Somolia. Or better yet, he allows millions of Jews to be exterminated in Nazi Germany. In this line of thinking Jehovah ignores the bad deeds of Catholic priests, Bishop Eddie Long and other religious charlatans’ but punishes newborns living in war zones. I often hear people say this person or that person is blessed because they have a big house and car. So does that mean the poor are not blessed because they do not have wealth?
I bet the next time Lil Wayne wins a BET Award he will thank God for the award he gets for “How to Hate a Bitch”. Its off his latest CD “Tha Carter IV” his latest misogynistic masterpiece. Like I said What’s God Got To Do With It?
These are all excellent questions, Ernest. These are some of the reasons why one “religion” just doesn’t seem to cut it for me. When people ask what my “religion” is, I tell them that I am a Buddhochristian (or something along those lines). You may call it rationalizing, when I say that the idea of Buddhism just makes sense to me, but isn’t religion about man’s attempt to make sense of his/her existence??? It seemed odd to me that after one Earthly life, we could mature spiritually to the level of being able to exist in Heaven with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. However, coming back (reincarnation) in various situations would give us more time and experience to learn and grow spiritually. I also believe that when we come back into, what may appear to be, less favorable conditions, it occurs, because we failed to learn certain lessons in previous lives. People ask me how I can believe in both Buddhism and Christianity??? First of all, Buddhism is more of a philosophy (although that wouldn’t matter to me whether it’s a philosophy or religion). In addition, I believe that man wrote the bible (only a few actual quotes from God/Jesus/Holy Spirit), and as a result, man has used the bible to do wicked things. This is not to say that it cannot be used as an instrument of good; it certainly can. Above all, God gave us the ability to think and the tool of intuition, so I prefer to follow my mind and intuition about what is cognitively and intuitively right instead of the beliefs of a person who is deemed to be an expert on salvation. Just my two cents…

Very well said. What God has to do with it, everything. First off Free will or Following Gods will is a choice. God is in control, he is the creator. However, he has given man his own free will…freedom to chose him. Next, as a true believer in Jehovah JIRAH I do believe natural disasters and such happens in these END TIMES because he said it would happen in his world. Maybe its a ‘shake up’ wake up call for some. Now as far as the celebrities giving honor to ‘their god’ this is totally different. Those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. There is one GOD, in heaven and there’s a ‘god’ of this world. The god of this world is the same god that is responsible for all the many religions, wars, sickness, death…what we see mostly on the news, or surrounding us every day. The GOD of Heaven Jehovah JIRAH is the one who saves, heal, deliver. He isn’t a god of money. As many televangelist may prophesy. He is a GOD of Love, Holiness, righteousness, and just. Those who by their own free will choses to follow the god of this world, will burn in Hell with the god of this world. And yes…including the ‘stars.’

And if I may add, many people will suffer here but what awaits them will be GLORIOUS… They have chosen to ‘die’ in this life, for this glorious everlasting life. Many already have their reward. So they have chosen to ‘live’ now, and die later. And I can totally understand why you say that Christianity is confusing, and the bible was written by man. Well, I don’t consider myself a Christian strictly because I am not religious. I don’t have a religion with the son of God, but a relationship. You have to know GOD for yourself.
